In early 2023 we were appointed as the joinery partner to support the relocation of Condé Nast from their home of 60 years at the iconic Vogue house to their new fresh and modern workspace within the fantastic Adelphi building on the Strand.

From the very beginning of the project, sustainability and reducing the project’s environmental impact was key to the Client and we undertook a significant piece of works to survey the whole of Vogue House and identify joinery pieces for re-use and re-purpose. The iconic Condé Nast herringbone timber flooring, which is over 100 years old, was moved to the seventh floor. It also helped to welcome the team back into the Condé Nast space and bring a real sense of familiarity to the environment.

We repurposed some of the original herringbone wood for a brand-new feature to give their signature flooring a second life. This removed the need for unnecessary excess materials as part of our quest for sustainable practices and our commitment to reuse materials when possible. Our team machined and condensed that wood to build a brand-new bookcase, showcasing not just their branding, but also the durability and sustainability capabilities of timber flooring.

To show the client the intent of the project ahead of the starting date, we created a new sample board and a mock-up staircase. By involving our customer from the start, we can close in on what exactly needs to be made and produced, minimising waste from the outset. The scope of works included an island unit, a tea point, boardroom AV screen joinery, several cupboards, feature walls, phone booths with fabric panelling, as well as fabric seating. We also crafted the oak cladding of the staircase, which included elements like treads, risers and the handrail, to reflect the unique character and elegance of the brand.

The work was completed over 23 weeks. In addition to the complexities of working in a live environment with noise restrictions, we also had to overcome the challenge of creating bespoke joinery based on footprints as the walls hadn’t been built yet. Our experienced team was up to the task and exceeded all expectations. We had an MDF footprint made and carried out detailed templating. This allowed our specialist joiners to get a head start and removed the risk of potentially wasted materials, continuing our mission to reduce the environmental impact of our projects.

We coordinated different teams to ensure a successful installation, leading all trades on site with our thorough marking-up process and proactivity. To us, it is essential to walk all stakeholders through the joinery journey.

We are driving forward with world-class talent and always improving how we work to reduce our environmental footprint.

As your partner, we know you depend on us to deliver every time and we want to build a more sustainable world, together.
